Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 13, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how SCANI (“we,” “our,” or “us”) collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use SCANI (“the App”).
By using the App, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please discontinue use of the App.
1. Information we collect
1.1 Camera and scanned content
The App requests access to your device’s camera so that it can scan QR codes, barcodes, product labels, and cosmetic products. Camera access is used only when you activate a scanning feature.
Depending on the feature you use, scanned codes, product identifiers, or selected images may be processed to identify the code or provide product and ingredient information.
1.2 Codes you create
When you create a QR code, the App processes the information you enter, such as a website address, Wi-Fi configuration, phone number, email address, message, or social profile, to generate the requested code.
You are responsible for ensuring that you have permission to include personal information belonging to another person in a generated code.
1.3 Scan history and favorites
The App may store your scan history, generated codes, and favorite items so that you can access them later. Some or all of this information may be stored locally on your device.
1.4 Account information
If you use Sign in with Apple, we may receive your Apple account identifier, name, and email address. If you choose “Hide My Email,” Apple may provide us with a private relay address instead of your personal email address.
We use this information to authenticate you, maintain your account, and make eligible account or subscription information available across devices.
1.5 Technical and usage information
We may automatically collect limited technical information required to operate, secure, diagnose, and improve the App, including:
- Device model and operating-system version;
- App version and language settings;
- IP address and approximate region;
- Crash reports and diagnostic information;
- Feature usage and interaction information;
- Subscription or purchase status.
Apple processes payments for purchases made through the App Store. We do not receive your complete payment-card details.
1.6 Support requests
If you contact us, we collect the information you voluntarily provide, such as your email address, message, screenshots, and diagnostic details included in your request.
2. How we use information
We use information to:
- Scan and interpret QR codes, barcodes, and product labels;
- Provide product, authenticity, and ingredient information;
- Create and share personal QR codes;
- Save scan history and favorite items;
- Authenticate accounts and restore subscription access;
- Respond to support requests;
- Detect fraud, misuse, and technical problems;
- Analyze and improve App performance;
- Comply with applicable legal requirements.
3. Legal bases for processing
Where the GDPR or similar legislation applies, we process personal data under one or more of the following legal bases:
- Performance of a contract: when processing is necessary to provide an App feature or subscription you requested.
- Consent: when you grant access to your camera, photos, tracking, or other optional device permissions.
- Legitimate interests: when necessary to secure, maintain, analyze, and improve the App.
- Legal obligation: when processing is required by applicable law.
4. Device permissions
The App may request the following permissions:
- Camera: to scan codes, barcodes, and product labels.
- Photos: to scan an image selected by you or save a generated QR code.
- Notifications: to send notifications that you have enabled.
- Tracking: only where applicable and after any consent required by the operating system or applicable law.
You can manage these permissions at any time in your device settings. Some App features may not work when their required permissions are disabled.
5. Information sharing
We may share limited information with service providers that help us operate the App, including providers of:
- Cloud hosting and data storage;
- Product and barcode lookup services;
- Analytics and crash reporting;
- Customer support;
- Subscription and payment processing;
- Security and fraud prevention.
We may also disclose information when required by law, necessary to protect users or our legal rights, or as part of a merger, acquisition, restructuring, or sale of business assets.
We do not sell personal information for monetary payment.
6. Third-party services
Some scans may open third-party websites or services. We do not control and are not responsible for the content, security, or privacy practices of those third parties.
Information processed by Apple, analytics providers, product lookup providers, or other external services is also subject to their respective privacy policies.
7. Data retention
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the App, maintain security, satisfy legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
Locally stored scan history can be removed from within the App or by deleting the App, subject to your device’s backup settings.
Account information may be retained while your account remains active. When you request account deletion, we delete or anonymize eligible information unless retention is required by law.
8. Data security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. However, no electronic transmission or storage method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
9. International data transfers
Our service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Where required, we use recognized safeguards for international transfers, such as adequacy decisions or approved contractual clauses.

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Request access to your personal information;
- Request correction of inaccurate information;
- Request deletion of eligible information;
- Restrict or object to certain processing;
- Request a portable copy of eligible information;
- Withdraw consent where processing relies on consent;
- Opt out of eligible targeted advertising or data sharing;
- Submit a complaint to your local data-protection authority.
We may need to verify your identity before processing a privacy request.
11. Children’s privacy
The App is not intended to collect personal information from children below the minimum age required by applicable law without authorization from a parent or legal guardian.
If you believe a child has provided personal information improperly, please contact us so that we can investigate and take appropriate action.
12. Account deletion
You may request account deletion using the account settings available in the App or by contacting us.
Deleting your account does not automatically cancel an App Store subscription. Subscriptions must be managed separately through your Apple account settings.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when our practices, App features, or legal obligations change. The date displayed at the top identifies the latest version.
